ASQ-SE-2 Screening

Overview

The ASQ-SE-2 (Ages & Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional, 2nd Edition) is a developmental screening tool for young children, typically used in PreK and early childhood programs. It measures social-emotional competence and identifies children who may need further evaluation.

ASQ-SE-2 is a published assessment instrument (not built by Standard Education). Your early childhood staff administer the questionnaire, and results are imported into Standard Education for reporting and analysis.

How It Works

Caregivers or teachers complete age-specific questionnaires about a child's social-emotional behaviors. The ASQ-SE-2 covers multiple age intervals (e.g., 48-month, 60-month questionnaires). Each questionnaire contains approximately 30-36 questions about the child's social interactions, autonomy, compliance, communication, and emotional expression. Each question also includes a "concern" indicator where the respondent can flag additional worries.

Scoring

Each child receives a total ASQ-SE-2 score based on their questionnaire responses. The score is compared against an age-specific cutoff score.

• Children scoring at or above the cutoff may need further evaluation or referral
• Children scoring below the cutoff are showing typical social-emotional development for their age

Summary Dashboard

• Total children screened
• Risk count table showing how many children are at or above cutoff
• Full child list with scores and risk indicators

Age-Interval Detail Views (e.g., 48 Month, 60 Month)

• Individual question response distributions (pie charts showing how children answered each question)
• Concern indicator distributions for each question
• Comments collected on open-ended questions

Outlier Tracking

• Count of children flagged as outliers
• Lists of children with outlier scores
• Children with abnormal response patterns
• Data quality indicators (incomplete responses, missing data)

Individual Child View

• Detailed view of a single child's responses and score
• Accessible by filtering or clicking through from the summary

Filters

You can filter ASQ-SE-2 results by classroom to view results by class or teacher.

Notes and Limitations

ASQ-SE-2 is used primarily for PreK and early childhood programs. It is not applicable to K-12 students.

Not all districts use ASQ-SE-2. This dashboard is only available if your district has configured early childhood screening data.

An anonymized version of the summary dashboard is available for sharing results with stakeholders who should not see individual children's names.

Question-level detail is extensive. The dashboards show response distributions for every question in the questionnaire, which can be helpful for identifying specific areas of concern across your program.

Data quality tools (outlier tracking, incomplete response identification) help ensure the reliability of your screening results.
