MAP Growth
Overview
MAP Growth (Measures of Academic Progress) is a computer-adaptive assessment developed by NWEA. It measures student achievement and growth in Reading and Math. Standard Education integrates MAP Growth data into your dashboards and student profiles, so you can view assessment results alongside attendance, behavior, and screening data.
MAP Growth is not administered within Standard Education. Students take the assessment through NWEA's platform, and the results are imported into Standard Education for reporting and analysis.
How MAP Data Gets Into Standard Education
MAP Growth data is uploaded to Standard Education, typically after each testing window. Your district may handle this through:
- Manual upload via the assessment data uploader
- Automated data feed (where configured)
MAP Growth data availability depends on your district's upload schedule. If you don't see recent results, your district may not have uploaded the latest testing window data yet. Contact your Standard Education representative for information about your district's MAP data schedule.

Understanding RIT Scores
RIT (Rasch Unit) scores are the core metric in MAP Growth:
- Scores typically range from 100 to 350
- RIT is an equal-interval scale, meaning a 10-point gain represents the same amount of learning regardless of where on the scale it occurs
- RIT scores span grade levels, so they measure what a student is ready to learn, not just grade-level performance
- Growth is measured by comparing RIT scores between testing windows
RIT scores are not percentiles. A RIT score measures absolute achievement level, while a percentile compares a student to peers nationally. Both may appear in your MAP dashboards.
Student Profile Integration
MAP Growth scores also appear in individual student profiles, giving counselors and administrators a complete academic picture alongside attendance and screening data.
Notes and Limitations
- MAP Growth is a third-party assessment. Standard Education displays the results but does not administer the test.
- Not all districts use MAP Growth. If your district uses a different assessment (i-Ready, Amplify, etc.), your academic dashboards will reflect that data instead.
- MAP data uploads may lag behind testing windows. The data is as current as your district's most recent upload.
- MAP Goals are based on NWEA's national norms and growth projections. They are informational targets, not mandated benchmarks.
